What do I get from your email marketing audit?

A review of your program covering flow coverage and performance, campaign strategy, segmentation, list health and deliverability, design and copy, and platform configuration, with a prioritized list of what to fix and what each fix is worth.

The most common finding is not that a brand sends too little email. It is that revenue is concentrated in two or three flows while a dozen obvious lifecycle moments go unaddressed, and that the list is being sent to as one audience rather than segmented by behavior. Both are usually fixable inside a quarter. Request an audit here.

Are we on the right platform, and will you help us migrate if not?

We will tell you honestly, and in most cases the answer is that your current platform is fine and the problem is how it is being used. Migration is disruptive and carries real risk to deliverability and automation continuity, so we only recommend it when there is a specific capability gap your platform genuinely cannot close.

When migration is the right call, we handle it: data and list migration with consent records intact, flow rebuilds, template migration, integration reconnection, and a warming plan so sending reputation carries over rather than resetting. The risk in a migration is almost always in the details of the transition rather than the destination platform.

Which email platforms do you work in?

Klaviyo, HubSpot, Braze, Attentive, Iterable, and Mailchimp, among others. We work in whatever you are on rather than requiring a move to a preferred partner.

The right platform depends less on features, which have largely converged, and more on how it integrates with your ecommerce stack, CRM, and data warehouse. An enterprise platform running on incomplete customer data will underperform a simpler one that is fully connected, which is why our data infrastructure team is often involved when segmentation is the constraint.

Which automated flows will you build first?

We sequence by revenue impact rather than building everything at once. For most ecommerce brands the priority order is welcome, abandoned cart and browse abandonment, post-purchase, and win-back, because those cover the highest-intent moments and typically account for the majority of automated revenue. Beyond that, replenishment, back-in-stock, price drop, and loyalty flows are sized against your catalog and purchase behavior.

For B2B and lead generation the order is different, weighted toward nurture sequences, lead scoring triggers, and sales handoff notifications, with the flow structure built around your sales cycle rather than a purchase event.

Who writes and designs the emails?

We do. Copy, design, and build are handled by our lifecycle and creative teams, working from your brand guidelines. That covers both the campaign calendar and the automated flows, along with testing variants for subject lines, offers, and layouts.

You approve the calendar in advance. Most clients review monthly and let us execute, which keeps us responsive to inventory changes and promotional timing without an approval cycle on every send. Where legal or regulatory review is required, we build that into the production schedule rather than treating it as a delay.

Our emails are going to spam. Can you fix our deliverability?

Usually, and it is one of the most common reasons brands come to us. Deliverability problems generally trace to a small set of causes: authentication not properly configured, sending to unengaged subscribers who never open, a list that includes purchased or scraped addresses, sudden volume spikes without warming, or content patterns that trigger filtering.

The fix starts with authentication, then suppressing unengaged segments, which feels counterintuitive because it shrinks your list and reliably increases your revenue. Mailbox providers weight engagement heavily, so continuing to send to people who never open actively suppresses delivery to the people who do. Recovery from a damaged sender reputation takes weeks of disciplined sending rather than a single change.

Do you buy email lists, and how do you grow ours?

No, and we will not send to a purchased list if you have one. Beyond the compliance exposure under GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and similar regimes, purchased lists destroy sender reputation quickly, which damages delivery to the subscribers who did opt in.

Growth comes from consented capture, tested rather than assumed: on-site forms and overlays with an offer worth the address, checkout and account creation, gated content for B2B, and cross-channel capture from paid and SMS. What people opted in for shapes what they should receive, so we segment at capture rather than sending everyone into the same welcome sequence.

What do you report on, and how do you avoid over-crediting email for revenue?

We report deliverability, click rate, conversion rate, revenue per recipient, average order value, list growth, and unsubscribe rate, with revenue and revenue per recipient as the headline numbers. Open rate is included but weighted lightly, since privacy protections have made it substantially less reliable than it was.

On attribution, email platforms credit any conversion within a lookback window, which means email routinely claims revenue from customers who would have purchased regardless. We deduplicate against orders and, where lifecycle spend is material, use incrementality testing with holdout groups. That produces a smaller number than your platform dashboard and a more honest one.

What industries and verticals do you work with?

We run lifecycle programs across CPG and ecommerce, fashion and apparel, consumer services, healthcare, and B2B, each with a dedicated division.

The programs look genuinely different. Ecommerce lifecycle is driven by purchase behavior, replenishment cycles, and catalog. B2B is driven by sales cycle stage and lead scoring, with success measured in pipeline rather than immediate revenue. Regulated categories carry constraints on what can be said and how data can be used that shape the program architecture from the start.

How much revenue should email be driving for us?

For established ecommerce brands, email and SMS together commonly account for a substantial share of total revenue, often in the twenty to thirty percent range, though this varies significantly by category, purchase frequency, and list maturity. A brand with a large engaged list and a repeat-purchase product will sit higher; a considered-purchase brand with a smaller list will sit lower and that is not a failure.

The more useful benchmark is revenue per subscriber, because it isolates how well you are monetizing the audience you have rather than rewarding you for list size. We set a target against your category during the audit and track against it rather than against a generic industry average.

How much does email marketing cost?

Two layers: your platform subscription, which scales with list size and send volume, and agency fees, scoped to the work involved. Scope depends on how much is being built from scratch versus optimized, how many campaigns per month, and how much design and creative production is required.

Email is typically the highest-margin channel in a marketing program, since the incremental cost of a send is minimal relative to the revenue a well-segmented campaign produces. We model expected contribution against total cost during the audit so you are evaluating net impact rather than a fee in isolation.

Do you handle SMS as well?

Yes, and we generally recommend running them together. SMS and email serve different moments: SMS for time-sensitive and transactional messages where immediacy matters, email for depth, storytelling, and merchandising.

Running them as one program rather than two means shared segmentation, coordinated timing, and unified suppression, so a customer is not receiving the same promotion twice in an hour across two channels. It also means measuring them together, which prevents the double-counting that happens when each platform claims the same order.

How quickly will we see results?

Flow work produces results fastest, because automated sequences begin earning as soon as they are live and improvements to an existing flow show up in the following weeks. Campaign performance improves as segmentation and testing accumulate, typically over the first couple of months.

The slowest component is list growth, which is the ceiling on everything else. If your program’s constraint is audience size rather than execution quality, the honest timeline is longer, and we will tell you which of those two you are facing during the audit rather than after the first quarter.

Can you work with our in-house team, and what happens if we part ways?

Yes to the first. Common splits include your team owning campaign sends while we handle strategy, flow architecture, and reporting, or the reverse. Email divides cleanly along those lines, so it is one of the easier functions to share.

On the second, your account, list, flows, templates, and data are yours and stay in your platform, which we access rather than own. If the engagement ends we document the program and hand it over cleanly. We would rather earn renewal on performance than on how hard it would be to leave.
