Amazon allows you to create a coupon directly from your Seller Central account. All you have to do is:

  • Log in to Seller Central
  • Click the “Advertising” tab 
  • Select “Coupons” from the drop-down menu
  • Click “Create a New Coupon”

Once you’re there, you can start crafting your click-magnetizing, conversion-inspiring, happiness-inducing coupon. 

#2 Choose Your Coupon-Redeemable Products

When you create a coupon, you can apply it to a single product or a group of products within your Amazon store. Amazon lets you apply the same coupon to up to 50 different products.

To indicate your coupon-redeemable products, simply search for their Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) or Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) in the search bar. Once your desired product shows up, click “Add to Coupon.” As you add each product to your coupon, they’ll show up on the right side of your screen. 

When it comes to choosing an eligible item for your coupon, the more the merrier! As long as you can afford a slight decrease in your profit margins, using coupons on the majority of your products can amplify your sales and revenue. 

#3 Decide on a Discount

Next, it’s time to choose your coupon’s discount type and amount. Amazon gives you two discount options:

  • Percent off — You can offer a percent discount of anywhere between 5% to 80% off. 
  • Money off — You can also offer a discount for any dollar amount of your choosing.

Both types of discounts can be very effective. 

As a general rule, percent discounts are preferable for products that cost $30 or less. With these lower-priced items, percent discounts often sound more substantial to buyers. For example, 10% off of $15 sounds more significant than a mere $1.50 off.

Amazon will also ask you if you want to limit your coupon redemption to one per customer.

#5 Calculate Your Total Coupon Budget

Next, it’s time to calculate a budget for your coupon campaign. This budget amount should adequately cover your coupons’ discounts and fees. 

For example, let’s say you’re selling a product for $20 with a 10% coupon:

  • When someone buys this product, they get to redeem $2.
  • Amazon charges you $0.60 for this redemption.
  • In total, this purchase deducts $2.60 from your coupon budget.
  • If you only want to offer 100 coupons, you should set your budget for $260.
  • If you want to offer as many coupons as possible, you should enter a much larger amount (like $10,000). This will ensure that your coupon stays active for as long as possible.

Once 95% of your coupon budget is used up, Amazon will automatically deactivate your coupon campaign. 

#6 Write a Coupon Title

Once activated, your coupon will automatically display the discount amount next to your product’s price. However, you can bolster the effectiveness of your coupon by including a more descriptive title. For example, your coupon could read as: “save 10% on a premium toaster” or “Save $15 on a robot vacuum.” 

Just keep in mind that Amazon has specific title guidelines you must follow.

#7 Select Your Coupon Audience Targeting

Next, you have the option to show your coupon to all Amazon users or restrict your coupon to a specific group. If you have wide profit margins on your products, it may be worthwhile to show your coupon to everyone. 

If you’d rather be more targeted with your coupon campaign, you can show your coupon exclusively to:

  • Amazon Prime members
  • Amazon Student members
  • Amazon users who have viewed certain ASINs
  • Amazon users who have previously purchased specific ASINs

#8 Choose a Coupon Campaign Schedule

Lastly, you need to choose a duration of time to show your coupon. Amazon lets you choose any duration of time between 1 and 90 days. Just keep in mind that your coupon’s duration can be cut short if your budget runs out before the scheduled end date.

Once you’ve selected your schedule, you can officially submit and activate your coupon campaign! It will only be a matter of time before you start seeing the results of your promotion.
