Challenges
When SLI approached Power Digital, they needed an entirely new website in 5 languages in a short timeline. The challenge was daunting, but we were able to set realistic expectations, deliver beautiful custom animations and iconography, as well as an award-nominated user experience.
The new SLI website strays from the norm by eliminating the use of photography and focusing on subliminal, psychological triggers to influence a user’s involvement with their content. By presenting certain shapes in certain areas, our strategy employs enough direction to increase SLI’s overall online user involvement.
Solutions
Our strategy derived from that of a Dropbox or Silicon Valley portfolio site… Simple, elegant, and effective. It was important to stay on brand with a simultaneous change in branding, which posed a huge problem when trying to work quickly. Our solution was to build wireframes and designs in conjunction, hoping to achieve layout and look in one step.
Coordinating the translation of the site and ensuring new content was used was also a huge problem. We loaded all new content in, did a content QA (separate from our normal cross-browser / cross-device QA) and sent it off to Smartling to finalize and duplicate in Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish.
Lastly, the largest piece of our website build was the final migration. Our SEO team handled a complex set of redirect rules to ensure SEO value was not lost upon launch, a job that took days of accounting for any and all links SLI had incurred over the years.
Results
SLI received a fully responsive website with a custom WordPress backend, tailored with over 10 post types. Our efforts in design outmatched their competitors in terms of originality, ultimately leaving them more than ready for a ramped up marketing plan!
