seoClarity Joint Webinar Recap

August 29, 2016
Table of Contents

A few weeks ago, I had the unique opportunity to host a joint webinar with the all-knowing, all-powerful seoClarity as well as our very own Nicholas Slettengren. We had an incredible turnout with about forty attendees and although it was only an hour long, we managed to squeeze about a year’s worth of SEO training and best practices into our allotted timeframe. Not to toot my own horn, but I’d say that’s pretty impressive!

Within those sixty minutes, we covered everything from the basics of keyword research to more complex and technical topics such as enterprise-level crawls and competitive analyses. Now I realize that not everyone has an hour on a Wednesday morning to tune into a webinar, so I wanted to make it available to anyone interested in expanding their SEO knowledge!

“Why should I spend 30 seconds of my time watching and downloading this presentation?” you may find yourself asking. The answer’s easy: it’s your one-stop-shop for SEO success. If you are new to SEO and want to lay the foundation for a future in the industry, you can turn to this webinar for any information you may need. Or, if you already consider yourself an SEO expert, this presentation will introduce you to some awesome tools and strategies to make your job much easier.

Interested? Here’s a little taste of what you’ll learn!

How To Perform Keyword Research: Step-By-Step

For any SEO newbies out there, here’s some quick background: keyword research is the process of researching and determining which words and phrases your prospects are most likely to search for when looking for products or services that relate to your business.

Obviously if you are a surfboard company, you’ll want to shop up on Google when people search for “surfboard” or “best surfboards” right? Through keyword research, you’ll find out that people are also searching for “longboard”, “funboard”, and “shortboard”. Discovering these alternative keywords will help you optimize your website for your ideal customer.

Sounds easy right? Not so much. There are thousands of other companies out there trying to optimize their website for the same exact keywords, yet only ten can show up on the first page of Google. This results in an extremely high level of competition. In this webinar, we walk through the keyword research process step-by-step and will show you how to use tools such as AWR Cloud and seoClarity to:

  • Find and analyze your current keyword rankings using AWR Cloud
  • Sort your keywords by position, search volume, and URL
  • Discover your competitors’ keyword rankings using seoClarity
  • Develop a deeper understanding of user-intent and how it relates to your keyword strategy
  • Identify areas of opportunity – aka looking for relevant keywords you could rank for from a competitive perspective

How To Manage Your Keywords For Better Insights & Reporting

Once you’ve chosen the bank of keywords you want to rank for, you must actively manage them. This involves segmenting your keywords for better performance insights, allowing you to make strategic campaign decisions as well as analyzing your ranking growth over time. Trust me, this is a lifesaver when it comes to reporting! In this webinar, you’ll learn how to:

  • Use seoClarity to tag keywords based on page, keyword cluster, or link
  • Use Trend Report in seoClarity to better illustrate ranking growth over time

How To Stay Ahead Of The Competition

As I hinted at before, SEO is an extremely competitive process. Thousands of brands are competing for a mere ten spots on page one of Google using the same batch of keywords. Therefore, I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep a close eye on your competition. Here at Power Digital, we prefer to use the word “opportunity” when talking about the competition. It just sounds better, am I right?

When I perform competitive analyses, I look for competitive gaps that I can use to my advantage. For example, it’s virtually impossible to rank for the keyword “shoes” unless you’re one of the big players, namely Zappos, DSW, or Shoes.com. However, depending on your DA, you may be able to rank for “running shoes”, “hiking boots”, or “black high heels”. These are less competitive keywords that still have high search volume that you have a better chance of ranking for.

In the webinar, you’ll learn how to use seoClarity to stay ahead of the competition as well as how to:

  • Find out where your keyword rankings lie in comparison to your top competitors
  • Use competitor rankings in keyword targeting and content ideation
  • Analyze and create reports highlighting keyword opportunities via competitive analysis
  • Identify opportunities within the marketspace to make significant organic improvements

…And I haven’t even gotten into how to use seoClarity to crawl enterprise-level websites and come up with interesting, relevant content ideas! As you can see, it was an awesome webinar and an experience that I will always remember.
